If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The natural beauty of Washington and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Six Mile Bridge to Dosewallips State Park
section is one of them. The put-in location is a short drive from Shelton, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. This section of Dosewallips River is 6.5 miles long
and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: There is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Dosewallips
River called the Mount Jupiter Trail. Dosewallips River is pretty dehydrated mostly; December is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is July. Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Dosewallips River. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; overnight lows at Dosewallips River throughout the wintertime mostly dip into the 30's.
