  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The scenic beauty of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Downey Creek trail to Suiattle River stretch of Downey Creek in Washington is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
    There are no other stretches to paddle along Downey Creek than the Downey Creek trail to Suiattle River stretch. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is very short so no need to bring snacks.

Briefly about the general area:
Having a pleasant time in the Northern Cascade Range is easy. Downey Creek usually gets a great deal of rain; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
Summertime highs at Downey Creek ordinarily
 
tend to be in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's while Downey Creek night low temperatures through the winter are in the 30's. Near Downey Creek you find the Sulphur Mountain Way which is a great hiking trail; going for a hike on the Meadow Mountain Trail is always a pleasant adventure.
