If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This section of Elochoman River is 11 miles long and is a class II-III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Elochoman River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the North Fork to Beaver Creek hatchery stretch is the only one. The natural
beauty of Wahkiakum County and the water flowing gracefully down Elochoman River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise
and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Elochoman River is a quite wet place usually with a large amount of rain; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain, and July is when it's the driest. During the summer months at Elochoman River temperatures
are generally in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 40's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Elochoman River.
