Washington whitewater - Elwha River, Olympic Mountains, Clallam County

Clallam county, Grand Canyon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     8.5 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Grand Canyon stretch of Elwha River in Clallam County is 8.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water beats anything. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river like this one you always
get great scenery along the way too. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Elwha River are pretty good. The starting point is not too far from Port Angeles, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The Grand Canyon section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
