Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. If you're coming from Port Angeles it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This stretch has has enough
mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The Mills Reservoir to Highway 101 stretch of Elwha River is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Elwha River through the days of summer are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the
50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Elwha River are in the 30's. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Hurricane Hill Trail. Elwha River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; all through the month of December you get the most rain around here while July is generally the driest month.
