The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The put-in location is a short drive from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting a good workout     and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Mills Reservoir to Highway 101 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The Mills Reservoir to Highway 101 stretch of Elwha River is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Elwha River ordinarily tend to be in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. The winter brings highs down   to the 40's; nighttime lows in the 30's for Elwha River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Elwha River a wet spot; all through December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture.
