The nature scenery of Clallam County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This stretch of Elwha River in Washington is 4.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The put-in is not too far from Port Angeles, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are a few
other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip.
Briefly about the general area: You are next to Angeles Point if you're here at Elwha River, and Olympic National Park is one of the destinations that are wonderful to stop by close by. Elwha River sees pretty high levels
of precipitation; December is when you get the most rain here while July is usually the driest month. During the months of summer highs here at Elwha River reach the 70's while overnight lows are generally in the 50's. Through the wintertime the highs are usually in the 40's,
and nighttime lows at Elwha River during the wintertime mostly dip into the 30's. So many enjoyable things in the Olympic Mountains, just tremendous.
