The Deer Park to Dungeness Forks Campground section of Gray Wolf River in Clallam County is 9.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Gray Wolf River will make you feel great. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Gray Wolf River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Deer Park to Dungeness Forks Campground stretch is the only one. The river
winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Shelton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.

Good hiking is available along the Baldy Trail, and there's good hiking along the Royal Creek Trail. Gray Wolf River is a location that is rather waterless usually; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is July. High temperatures
at Gray Wolf River during the long summer days are in the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 40's while Gray Wolf River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Olympic Mountains.
