Spokane/Whitman county, Upper section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III+(IV)     10 miles
The Upper section of Hangman Creek in Spokane/Whitman County is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III+(IV) section. The scenic beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Hangman Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Spokane, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Upper section is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
