Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The campgrounds here at Icicle Creek are pretty good. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Rock Island Campground to Ida Creek section is one of them. This section of Icicle Creek in Washington is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class     II-III+(V) section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Icicle Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month with most of the snow is January, and the driest of the months is July.   Icicle Creek is right by the Icicle Trail. For the period of the summertime months highs here at Icicle Creek reach the 60's with overnight lows in the 40's. Throughout the winter the highs are regularly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Icicle Creek are in the 10's.
