Washington whitewater - Icicle Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Chelan County Chelan county, Rock Island Campground to Ida Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III+(V)     3.5 miles   The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Chelan County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Icicle Creek make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before     you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The Rock Island Campground to Ida Creek stretch of Icicle Creek in Washington is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III+(V) section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds here at Icicle Creek are pretty good. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Icicle Creek is a wet site that gets a large amount of rain; the month with most of the snow is January, and July is when it's the driest. Icicle Creek is right by the   Icicle Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Icicle Creek. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 20's with temperatures at Icicle Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
