The starting location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade Range is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The Ida Creek to Snow Creek trailhead section of Icicle Creek
is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V(V+) section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of Chelan County and
the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Ida Creek to Snow Creek trailhead stretch is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime months at Icicle Creek temperatures are typically in the 60's with overnight lows in the 40's. High temperatures
during the wintertime are normally in the 20's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Icicle Creek drop into the 10's. So many enjoyable things to do in the Northern Cascade Range, not enough time. Icicle Creek is a wet place that gets a great deal of
precipitation; the month with most of the snow is January while July is regularly the driest month. Going for a hike along the Icicle Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Snow Lakes Trail.
