The Glacier Creek to Highway 12 section of Johnson Creek is 7.7 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging
than in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The
wonderful Washington scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are no other sections to paddle along Johnson Creek than the Glacier Creek to Highway 12 section.
Briefly about the general area: No need to travel far to stop at exciting stuff like South Point, and nearby you stumble on the Glacier Lake Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. The surroundings of
this river have so much to offer. Summertime highs at Johnson Creek frequently tend to be in the 70's while night lows are typically in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while the cold winter nights at Johnson Creek are in the 20's. Not enough hours in a day
to enjoy the Northern Cascade Range. Jennings Falls is always fun to check out; the South Point Trail is a great hiking trail close by. The high level of rainfall makes Johnson Creek a reasonably wet site; the month with most of the snow is January, and July is the month with the least moisture.
