The starting point is not too far from Longview-Kelso, as you can see on the road map further down. The Upper Kalama Falls to Gobar Creek stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that
a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Upper Kalama Falls
to Gobar Creek stretch of Kalama River is 15 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. The campgrounds here at Kalama River are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: At Kalama River all through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's while overnight lows are frequently in the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are
normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Kalama River. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Kalama River; Georges Peak Trail is a tremendous local trail. Much precipitation falls at Kalama River; through December this area sees the most rain, and July on the other hand is the driest.
