The put-in location is a short drive from Longview-Kelso, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Kalama River in Cowlitz County is 15 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. If you hurry
you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The natural beauty of Washington and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus.

rain while July is generally the driest month. All through the summer months highs here at Kalama River reach the 70's with night lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Kalama River.
