Gobar Creek to Lower Kalama Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-IV 9.5 miles
The Gobar Creek to Lower Kalama Falls stretch of Kalama River in Washington is 9.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.
For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. The beautiful scenery of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Kalama River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Longview-Kelso, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
