If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. If you're coming from Longview-Kelso it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Washington and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Lower Kalama Falls to Indian Creek stretch of Kalama River in Cowlitz County is 2.5
miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Lower
Kalama Falls to Indian Creek section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: At Kalama River through the months of summer highs are in the 70's, and
the overnight is a little colder of course, frequently in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Kalama River temperatures dip to the 30's. Kalama River mostly gets a lot of precipitation; December is the wettest month
with most rain, and July on the other hand is the driest. Lower Kalama River Falls is a pretty spot to have a look at while you're at Kalama River; during your journey here you'll meet some people from Longview-Kelso for sure.
