The scenic beauty of Cowlitz County and the water flowing gracefully down Kalama River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Kalama River in Cowlitz County is 2.5 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit
away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The put-in location is a short drive from Longview-Kelso,
if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.
