The beautiful scenery of Cowlitz County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section of Kalama River is 2.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states,
so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Lower Kalama Falls to Indian Creek section is one of them. If you're coming from Longview-Kelso it's not a long drive at all
to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

while July is usually the driest month. Don't leave Kalama River without first paying a visit to Lower Kalama River Falls. Summertime highs at Kalama River frequently tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Kalama River.
