Washington whitewater - Lake Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Chelan County
Chelan
county,
along FR 400 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 2 miles
The along FR 400 section of Lake Creek is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. The wonderful Washington scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national
average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better
reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling stretch along Lake Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The campgrounds here at Lake Creek are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Lake Creek a wet place; January is when you get the most snow here while July is generally the driest month. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Lake Creek while night lows are ordinarily
in the 40's. For the duration of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Lake Creek are in the 10's.
