The natural beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Little Naches River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are no other stretches to paddle along Little Naches River than the Matthew Creek to Little Naches Campground stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery.
For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Matthew Creek to Little Naches Campground section of Little Naches River in Yakima/Kittitas County is 9.5 miles long and has been determined
by American Whitewater to be a class II-III+(IV) section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Through the long summer days highs here at Little Naches River get into the
70's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 30's; throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Little Naches River temperatures drop to the 20's. Little Naches River is a wet spot that gets much rainfall; January
is the month that gets the most rain; July on the other hand is the driest. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining stuff in the Northern Cascade Range. There's great hiking along the Mount Cliffty Trail. The Manastash Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best; West Quartz Creek Falls is an inspiring site to pop by while you're here.
