  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Little White Salmon River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range
    and you get great scenery. The Willard to Columbia River stretch of Little White Salmon River in Washington is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number
of good places. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Little White Salmon River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Willard to Columbia River section is the only one.

Little White Salmon River is right by the Nestor Peak Trail. Little White Salmon River sees pretty high levels of rain; December is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is July.
For the period of the summertime, highs mostly are in the 70's at Little White Salmon River, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 40's while Little White Salmon River overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's.
