CLASS IV-V 3 miles
The to Lyre River Campground section of Lyre River in Clallam County is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Clallam County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. The Olympic
Mountains scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The campgrounds here at Lyre River are pretty good. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. If you've
been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. If you're coming from Port Angeles it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is the only paddling section along Lyre River.
