The to Lyre River Campground stretch of Lyre River in Clallam County is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The nature scenery of Clallam County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. Lyre River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches,
the to Lyre River Campground stretch is the only one. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. If you're coming from Port Angeles it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Low Point is nearby and always nice to go to, and you can have
a good hiking adventure along the Pyramid Mountain Trail. This river is so perfect. The high level of rain makes Lyre River a relatively wet place; during November this area sees the most rain while July is regularly the driest month. If you have a thing about the outdoors
you'll have a thing about it here in the Olympic Mountains. You'll meet a lot of folks from Port Angeles here; going for a hike along the Aurora Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. All through the summer months at Lyre River temperatures are frequently
in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are typically in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Lyre River.
