The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The milepost 8 to Yellowjacket Creek section of McCoy Creek is 7.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The natural beauty of Lewis County and the water flowing gracefully down McCoy Creek are reasons enough to come here and
paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. McCoy Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the milepost 8 to Yellowjacket Creek section is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime months here at McCoy Creek, high temperatures frequently reach the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Highs throughout
the wintertime are commonly in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 30's for McCoy Creek. McCoy Creek is a reasonably wet place usually with a good deal of precipitation; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is July.
