Washington whitewater - Methow River, Northern Cascade Range, Okanogan County Okanogan county, River Bend Campground to Carlton section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II(III)     54 miles   The beautiful scenery of Okanogan County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Methow River in Washington is 54 miles long and has been rated as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a     bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the River Bend Campground to Carlton section is one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Methow River is a location that is relatively waterless frequently; the month of December is the wettest with most of the snow, and July is the month with the least moisture. Summertime at Methow River arrives with   high temperatures in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's; nighttime lows at Methow River during the winter typically descend into the 10's.
