This stretch of Muddy River in Skamania County is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nature scenery of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This is the only paddling stretch along Muddy River. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect
for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Muddy River. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows through the wintertime for Muddy River tend to be in the 30's. Muddy River is a wet place that gets much rainfall;
of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain; July is when it's the driest. There's brilliant hiking along the Muddy River Trail, and the Smith Creek Butte Trail offers hiking at its best. You absolutely ought to love the Northern Cascade Range.
