Washington whitewater - Naches River, Northern Cascade Range, Yakima County
Yakima
county,
Sawmill Flat to bl. Town of Naches section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 34 miles
The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Yakima County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Sawmill Flat to bl. Town of Naches section of Naches River is 34 miles long and is according to
American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Sawmill Flat to bl. Town of Naches stretch is the only paddling stretch along Naches River. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day,
so better bring your camping gear along. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: At Naches River you don’t see much precipitation; December is
when you get the most snow here, and July is the month with the least moisture. Just can't get enough of the Northern Cascade Range. All through the summer months here at Naches River, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down
into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Naches River are in the 20's. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Box Spring; a nice spot is Nile Valley.
