The wonderful Washington scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section of Olequa Creek in Lewis County is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+ section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are no other stretches to paddle along Olequa Creek than the
Annonen Road to Cowlitz River stretch. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good
non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The starting point is not too far from Centralia, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Olequa Creek mostly tend to be in the 70's, and through the night it cools down
to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Olequa Creek. Lots of rainfall falls at Olequa Creek; most of the rain falls during December; the driest month is July.
