If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The wonderful Washington scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Palouse River beats anything. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The Palouse Falls State Park to
Lyons Ferry State Park stretch of Palouse River in Franklin/Whitman County is 4 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Falls Spring is a glorious local attraction. Palouse River is a location that is reasonably dried up regularly; the month with most of the snow is December, and the driest of the months is July. Nearby Winn Lake Canyon is a nice place to go if you're at Palouse River, and Palouse Falls is always fun to check out. Summertime at Palouse River comes with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's; night lows in the 20's for Palouse River.
