The starting location is a reasonable drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Snohomish County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere,
so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There's camping available near Pilchuck Creek. This section of Pilchuck Creek is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty decent
length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Pilchuck Creek Campsite to Highway 9 Bridge section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade Range is a great experience. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
