This section of Quartz Creek in Skamania County is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. The wonderful Skamania County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Quartz Creek attract people from near and far. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Quartz Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Snaggletooth Creek to Lewis River section is the only one. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm days of summer, highs usually are in the 70's at Quartz Creek; the nighttime is quite cooler of course, commonly in the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at Quartz Creek
temperatures descend to the 30's. The high level of rain makes Quartz Creek a reasonably wet place; December is the month that gets the most rain while July is typically the driest month.
