The put-in location is a short drive from Port Angeles, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of Jefferson County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This stretch of Queets River in Washington is 9.3 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but
if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Queets Campground to Hartzell Launch stretch is the only paddling stretch
along Queets River. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: Queets River gets a large amount of water; most of the rain falls through December, and the driest
month of the year is August. The warmest time of the year at Queets River comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 40's. For the period of the wintertime highs are commonly in the 40's while Queets River night low temperatures all through the winter are in the 30's.
