Washington whitewater - Quinault River, Olympic Mountains, Jefferson County
Jefferson
county,
Cannings Creek to South Shore Road access section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 6.5 miles
July isn't the driest month here. August and September are. Says Keith Olson
The Cannings Creek to South Shore Road access stretch of Quinault River is 6.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The beautiful scenery of Jefferson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Aberdeen it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down
the page. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Cannings Creek to South Shore Road access section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just being out
on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination.
