CLASS V+ 4.5 miles
This stretch of Racehorse Creek in Whatcom County is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. If you're coming from Mount Vernon-Anacortes it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. The wonderful Washington scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Racehorse Creek will make you feel great.
This is the only paddling stretch along Racehorse Creek. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
