Washington whitewater, Rattlesnake Creek

Klickitat county, mile 3 to White Salmon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV(V)     3 miles
This section of Rattlesnake Creek in Washington is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Rattlesnake Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The starting location is
a short drive from Hood River, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and just
being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The beautiful
Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the mile 3 to White Salmon section is one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Good hiking is available along the Little Baldy Trail, and Koberg Beach State Park is worth stopping at. Now, you may feel that's a lot but there's even more cool stuff to do here in the Northern Cascade Range. There's good hiking along the Little White Salmon Trail; a visit here wouldn’t be complete without a trip to close by Memaloose State Park. Lots of fun awaits you along this river.
