Washington whitewater - Rush Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Skamania County
Skamania
county,
Meadow Creek to FR 90 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 5 miles
The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Skamania County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This stretch of Rush Creek in Skamania County is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. There are no other
stretches to paddle along Rush Creek than the Meadow Creek to FR 90 stretch. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The put-in location is a short drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
Briefly about the general area: The Ridge Trail offers hiking at its best; the summits
of the Crazy Hills add much beauty to the area. Rush Creek gets a good deal of water; the month with most of the rain is December, and July meanwhile is the driest month. During the warm months highs here at Rush Creek get into the 70's. For the duration of the dark hours of
summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are mostly in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Rush Creek throughout the wintertime usually plunge into the 30's. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Northern Cascade Range. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Falls Creek Trail.
