The 500 Bridge to Queets Campground stretch of Sam's River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The starting point is not too far from Port Angeles, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Sam's River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the 500 Bridge to Queets Campground stretch is the only one. This stretch
has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The campgrounds here at Sam's River are pretty good. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The natural beauty of Washington and the playfulness of the water
beats anything. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
