This section of Satsop River - Middle Fork in Mason County is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III+(IV) section. If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way
in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful scenery of Mason County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This stretch is mid length, you
can easily run it on an afternoon. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
