The natural beauty of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The starting point is not too far from Port Angeles, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are
sure to keep you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This section of Sitkum River is 9.6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V section. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are no other sections to paddle along Sitkum River than the Brandeberry Creek to Hyas Creek section.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer at Sitkum River highs are generally in the 70's. For the duration of the
moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. Highs during the winter are mostly in the 40's while Sitkum River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's. On a perfect day at Sitkum River you can take a hike along the Rugged Ridge Trail; there is a brilliant
hiking trail nearby called the Pass Trail. And if that's not enough there's heaps more amusing things to do in the Olympic Mountains. Sitkum River is a wet location that gets lots of rain; most of the rain falls during November while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
