The Brandeberry Creek to Hyas Creek stretch of Sitkum River is 9.6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great
experience. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people
prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling stretch along Sitkum River. The wonderful Clallam County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Sitkum River make the trip here worthwhile.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer, highs frequently are in the 70's at Sitkum River. Summer night lows descend down to the 40's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are frequently in
the 40's, and nighttime lows at Sitkum River throughout the wintertime typically fall into the 30's. Be careful coming to the Olympic Mountains, you might not ever wanna go back home again. Sitkum River is a quite wet place frequently with lots of rainfall; November is the
wettest month with most rain while July is usually the driest month. The Rugged Ridge Trail is a pleasant hiking trail near Sitkum River, and nearby you find the Pass Trail which is a good hiking trail.
