The Brandeberry Creek to Hyas Creek stretch of Sitkum River in Washington is 9.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. The natural beauty of Washington and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. The campgrounds here at Sitkum River are pretty good. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is the only paddling stretch along Sitkum River. The put-in location is a short drive from Port Angeles, there's a road map further down the page

The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Sitkum River a pretty wet place; during the month of November you get the most rain
around here, and July on the other hand is the driest. There are great sites to discover along the Rugged Ridge Trail, and don't leave Sitkum River without first going for a hike along the Pass Trail. Summertime highs at Sitkum River mostly tend to be in the 70's with nighttime
lows in the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are usually in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at Sitkum River temperatures descend to the 30's. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing things in the Olympic Mountains.
