Washington whitewater - Skate Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Lewis County
Lewis
county,
Johnson Creek to Craig Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III+ 3.1 miles
The natural beauty of Lewis County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This stretch of Skate Creek is 3.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a
while are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade Range is a great experience. The Johnson Creek to Craig Road section is the only paddling section along Skate Creek.
Briefly about the general area: Skate Creek gets a good deal of water; during the month of January you get the most snow around here, and July meanwhile is the driest month. That right there is heaps of enjoyable stuff already but it goes on, the Northern Cascade Range has it all. Summertime brings highs
in the 70's to Skate Creek, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Skate Creek fall into the 20's. On a great day at Skate Creek you can take a hike along the Willame Trail, and the Davis Mountain Trail is a nice hiking trail close by.
