The Staircase to Lake Cushman section of Skokomish River - North Fork in Washington is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Mason County and the water flowing gracefully down Skokomish River - North Fork are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Skokomish River - North Fork are pretty good. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The put-in is not too far from Shelton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nearby hotels are
a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes.
