The wonderful Washington scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Skokomish River - North Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that
a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is short so better
bring some good walking shoes. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Staircase to Lake Cushman section of Skokomish River - North Fork in Mason County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
