The Browns Creek to Vance Creek section of Skokomish River - South Fork is 11 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Mason County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road
map further down. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Browns Creek to Vance Creek section is one of them. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river
like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.
