The Browns Creek to Vance Creek section of Skokomish River - South Fork in Washington is 11 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Mason County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Browns Creek to Vance Creek stretch is one of
them. The campgrounds here at Skokomish River - South Fork are pretty good. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Shelton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book
a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
