The Above lower gorge to South Fork of Nooksack section of Skookum Creek in Whatcom County is 1.25 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking
outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent
or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a very short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The nature scenery of Whatcom County and the water flowing gracefully down Skookum Creek beats anything. This is the only paddling stretch along Skookum Creek. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.

drop down into the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 40's; night lows in the 30's for Skookum Creek. Skookum Creek is a wet place that gets much precipitation; November is the month that gets the most rain while July is typically the driest month.
