Washington whitewater - Sloan Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Snohomish County
Snohomish
county,
to National Forest Sauk section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 1 miles
The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch of Sloan Creek in Snohomish County is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are
campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The wonderful Washington scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Getting some good
exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Sloan Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the to National Forest Sauk stretch is the only one. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Sloan Creek without first going for a hike along the Lost Creek Ridge Trail, and there's good hiking along the Camp Creek Ridge Trail. But wait, there's more cool stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. High temperatures at Sloan Creek through the months of summer
are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are mostly in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Sloan Creek. Sloan Creek ordinarily gets a large amount of rain; November is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
