The starting location is a reasonable drive from Mount Vernon-Anacortes, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch of Stillaguamish River - South Fork in Washington is 12.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as
well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. And of course, there
are campgrounds nearby. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. The nature scenery of Snohomish County and the water flowing gracefully down Stillaguamish River - South Fork beats anything. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.
