The starting point is not too far from City of The Dalles, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Swale Creek in Washington is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Klickitat County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling
spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to
run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Harris Road to Wahkiacus stretch is the only paddling stretch along Swale Creek. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out
with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: At Swale Creek during the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and
overnight lows at Swale Creek during the wintertime frequently fall into the 20's. The amount of rainfall that falls at Swale Creek is close to the national average; December is the month that gets the most snow while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
