This section of Toutle - South Fork is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're coming from Longview-Kelso it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This river system has a few good     paddling sections and the Harrington Place to Big Wolf Creek section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Briefly about the general area: Toutle - South Fork sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the wettest month   of the year is generally December, that's the one that rains the most, and July on the other hand is the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Toutle - South Fork, and during the night it cools down to the 40's.
