The nature scenery of Skamania County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The FR 43 to Wind River stretch of Trout Creek in Skamania County is 6.3 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling stretch along Trout Creek. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The starting location is a reasonable
drive from Hood River, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the summer months highs here at Trout Creek get into the 70's, and through
summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are generally in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 30's for Trout Creek. Trout Creek commonly gets lots of rain; most of the rain falls during December; July is when it's the driest. While you're here
at Trout Creek you can take a hike along the Soda Peaks Trail, and do take some time to take a look at Wind River Experimental Forest since you're here. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Northern Cascade Range. Going for a hike along the Rock Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region.
