CLASS IV-V     6.3 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful Skamania County scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The FR 43 to Wind River section of Trout Creek in Washington is 6.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. If you've been
whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Trout Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the FR 43 to Wind River section is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great.
