Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V 3.25 miles
The Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls section of Tye River is 3.25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Surprise Creek to Alpine Falls section is one of them. The wonderful Washington scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough
to come here and paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. When you're paddling
down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
Briefly about the general area: It's always good to take a look at Deception Falls. The high level of precipitation makes Tye River a pretty wet location; January

When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 40's. All through the wintertime highs are generally in the 20's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Tye River.
