Washington whitewater - Vance Creek, Olympic Mountains, Mason County Mason county, FS 2350 to Vance Creek Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV     3.5 miles   The scenic beauty of Mason County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The put-in location is a short drive from Shelton, as you can see on the road map further down. The FS 2350 to Vance Creek Bridge section of Vance Creek is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater. The campgrounds     here at Vance Creek are pretty good. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The FS 2350 to Vance Creek Bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Vance Creek. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Briefly about the general area: Summer at Vance Creek comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are frequently in the   40's while the cold winter nights at Vance Creek are in the 30's. Vance Creek gets much water; most of the rain falls during December, and July is when it's the driest.
