The Waptus Lake trail to Salmon La Sac stretch of Waptus River in Kittitas County is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III+(IV) section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Kittitas County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find
lots of paddling places. The Waptus Lake trail to Salmon La Sac stretch is the only paddling stretch along Waptus River. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. There are campgrounds
quite near the river where you can camp. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: This is a really good river. China Point is something you shouldn't miss since you're here at Waptus River. Waptus River usually gets a good deal of rainfall; January
is when you get the most snow here; July meanwhile is the driest month. Man, is there a load of entertaining stuff to do in the Northern Cascade Range. Salmon la Sac is a delightful local attraction, and the Davis Peak Lookout Trail is a splendid hiking trail nearby. Through
the warmest time of the year at Waptus River temperatures are usually in the 60's while overnight lows are regularly in the 40's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Waptus River plunge into the 10's. Little
Salmon la Sac is a wonderful place to explore while you're at Waptus River, and there is a tremendous hiking trail nearby called the Red Mountain Trail.
