This section of Washougal River in Skamania County is 4.3 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Skamania County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this
state are not easy. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. There
are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Prospector's Creek to Doc's Drop stretch is just one of many. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Washougal River gets a large amount of water; during December this area sees the most rain while July is ordinarily the driest month. Good hiking is available along the Washougal Trail, and there's great hiking along the Green
Leaf Trail. For the period of the days of summer here at Washougal River, high temperatures usually get into the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Washougal River plunge into the 30's. Whohoo, so much fun stuff in one place!
