This stretch of Washougal River in Washington is 3 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Skamania County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than
in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Doc's
Drop to Dougan Falls section is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summer months highs here at Washougal River reach the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's while Washougal River overnight low temperatures
during the winter are in the 30's. Washougal River is a reasonably wet place generally with much rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that rains the most; July is the month with the least moisture. All year is a great time in the Northern
Cascade Range if you have a thing about the outdoors. Don't leave Washougal River without first going for a hike along the Washougal Trail; great hiking is available along the Green Leaf Trail.
