The starting location is a reasonable drive from Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Highway 140 to Washougal stretch of Washougal River in Clark/ Skamania County is 7.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and
kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is not the only paddling section in this river system,
there are others too. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The natural beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Washougal River make the trip here worthwhile. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve
in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: If you want to hit the beach, Sundial Beach is around here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Washougal River a wet place; December is the month that gets the most rain, and July
on the other hand is the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Washougal River, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's while Washougal River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's.
