CLASS III-IV     7.3 miles

I find this to be the best river ever for a beginner white water paddler. It has excellent eddies; big roller waves; lots of rapids and tons of places to rest, regroup and try again. Says Dee

The starting location is a reasonable drive from Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Highway 140 to Washougal stretch of Washougal River in Clark/ Skamania County is 7.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and
kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is not the only paddling section in this river system,
there are others too. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The natural beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Washougal River make the trip here worthwhile. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve
in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
