This stretch of White Salmon River is 8.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV(V) section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling
spots. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The Cascade Creek to Trout Lake section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you
come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of Skamania County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
