  If you're coming from Hood River it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you wonít get lost. This section of White Salmon River in Washington is 8.4 miles long and is a class III-IV(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't
    forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Since you're on
this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Cascade Creek to Trout Lake section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The wonderful Skamania County scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem  
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus.

Briefly about the general area:
On a pleasant day at White Salmon River you can take a hike along the Round The Mountain Trail, and nearby you stumble on Green Canyon which is a good place to take a look at. Having a good time in the Northern Cascade Range is uncomplicated. There is a delightful hiking trail in the neighborhood of White Salmon River called the Little White Salmon Trail, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Trout Lake here.
